Barbary Coast: A Pot Shop with a Smoking Lounge

After our cocktail reception, I joined a young colleague named Will McGough for a jaunt to a local dispensary.   I helped Will get his start in travel writing back about ten years ago, and he’s been a success and now lives in Hawaii.  We went to our respective ATM machines and then to the Barbary Coast Dispensary on Mission Street.

Not only do they sell every possible variety of weed, tinctures, CBD, oils, dab stations and edibles, but this place has it one step better. They actually have a lounge where their customers can enjoy the products they bought at the dispensary!

We selected a handy-dandy pack of five pre-rolled joints that come in packaging reminiscent of cigarette manufacturing–a fancy pack with art deco artwork and the foil-packed joints even have tips at the end.

It was a relaxing scene–a group of about eight younger people sitting around with a big bong in the middle, and Will and I, reclining on couches and enjoying the weed.  This solves the big problem people face when they obtain legal weed–where to consume it without fear of hassle and where it’s perfectly ok.

I am excited about Massachusetts own foray into legal recreational dispensaries…which starts on July 1. But they haven’t figured out that it is a good idea to have a place where you can enjoy it if you’re not from around here.
