Ogunquit, Maine: A Beach Like No Other
We arrived at our hotel in Ogunquit, Maine tonight around 4:30 pm, and after settling in, we set out to discover what one of my friends described as “the best beach on the East coast.” A tall order to be sure, but after we had walked over a bridge across the Ogunquit River and saw the people floating down under us on tubes, and the expanse of clean and smooth brown sand, it was clear my friend was right.
The light at 6:30 pm was that perfectly clear, long shadow light that painters love. Mary and I went out into the chilly water and with me sitting in the ring, and her swimming and riding on top, we letting the current pull us toward the ocean. It was magical…so much that we went back and did it again.
After we had returned to the beach with beach chairs and some wine, we relaxed and watched many people on the massive beach, that stretched way, way out. The only annoyance were some sand flies that attacked our ankles, forcing a premature exit.
Lobster bisque, Maine steamers, mussels and baked potatoes made the perfect repast at the Ogunquit Lobster Pound, up at 500 Main St. Then we took our time and sat on the busy main street watching people walk by and not having ice cream–too full!
