Harvest on the Harbor Festival: In Portland, it’s Time for a Taste!

Pulled pork at the Harvest on the Harbor fest in Portland, Maine.

We’re heading Downeast tonight, as soon as we can get ourselves packed and depart. We are heading to a wonderful event that apparently is so popular it’s sold out altogether–the Harvest on the Harbor Festival in Portland, Maine.

We should arrive in time to listen to blues, munch barbecue, and sip some Maine-brewed beers. Portland has become quite the foodie town in recent years, with new restaurants popping up and the Old Port merry with lots of great beer and food destinations.

We are happy to be staying in the thick of it all–right downtown at the Residence Inn on Fore Street, right across from the festivities. We will be drinking and thinking about food for the next 48 hours!

We’ll also stop by and visit some old friends of Mary’s who settled in Portland many years ago. It’s always nice to have a local to show us around, and who I can quote in my story about the city.

On Saturday we’ll go down to the harbor and test out more than 125 different food booths each with their own Maine style cuisine.  We will also take in Portland’s fabulous art museum and hopefully get out on some bikes for a ride around the city.

Going away for the weekend is always exciting to me–it’s that anticipation of a new place, sleeping in a new hotel, meeting new people, and covering it all with my camera and my voice. Life is good!
