The Taste of Deerfield Family Fun Fest: Coming June 25!
Imagine, if you can, a warm late June night. It’s the Taste of Deerfield, and all the way down Sugarloaf St., you can smell the grills cooking and hear the music. It sounds like a good time.
In the cold damp March night I met with the Deerfield selectboard to discuss my idea, thinking about a soft summer evening where a kick ass party was created for the citizens by the citizens. Encouraged and emboldened by fellow residents who say they want to see events happening downtown, I am forging ahead. And the selectboard is on board as well with a thumbs up from all three members.
The scenario, and taste sensations mentioned above will happen on June 25, starting at 11 am. The beer will flow, the music will be on, and there will be kids games for the next ten hours. I am recruiting restaurants in town, and am hopefull that the six we’ve already got on board will double to an even 12. I want to have a carwash, and kids running in sack races, and adults hanging out, chatting over coffee and Berkshire beer, and watching the games and talking with their neighbors.
I think that in ten years we will still see a festival like this going on, once we get the ball rolling, since it’s a smaller scale, more practical way to offer the fun and diversity of the Taste of Amherst, or Taste of Northampton right here in our village. Few people park their cars in the town-owned lot, and it’s a great way to put it to use. Conveniently, the brewery’s location on the other side of this removable fence, so our plans are to set up a beer garden wine tent and also a seating eating area in view of the games field.
Kids love it when adults watch them, so we’ll do just that.
