Flying to the Azores Tonight and the Algarve Awaits
What could make more excited than the prospect of an overnight flight? Few things, that’s for sure. Once again Paul Shoul and I are packing up for an adventure together. This trip will begin on Pico island, in the Azores. I was last in the Azores in 2010, and Paul and I traveled to Portugal back in 2014. But we’ve both never been the grand South of the country, the Algarve, and we have a great trip lined up with lots of great people to meet.
Our first activity will be horseback riding on Pico, Paul has decided to pass on this, but I am always game. Then we will see the national park and hike near the famous volcano, and later in the week head for a few days in Lisbon. Lisbon is an exciting city, the latest news here is that Madonna has taken up permanent residence in the city. I was there with Paul but we only saw the waterfront during a bike ride. This time we’ll see some more sights and hopefully be able to squeeze in a Tuk-Tuk tour of the city.
Then we’ll get our rental car and head south, where in the Algarve we’ll be staying at the Tivoli Carvoeiro Resort, perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. I can’t wait to see those views and hike in the national park there. Later on, we’ll do a food tour and a fishing expedition, and visit the hotel’s spa for some treatments. Few things are as great for me as staying in the same hotel for three nights, we’ll get to unpack and really feel at home. Stay tuned, much more to come!
