Flying to Atlanta Today to the AARP’s Life@50+ National Event

Today I’m flying to Atlanta for a three-day conference devoted to those of us who have already reached 50 years of age. It’s the Fall 2o13 Life@50+ National Event of the AARP. You might recognize these people as voting bloc that politicians fear the most–and the people who mail you those red and white cards all the time.

As a blogger, I’m going to cover the event. And tomorrow morning I’m looking forward to a day of service at this Atlanta organization that ships books to Africa.

Books for AfricaBooks for Africa

Books are the foundation of learning and there are a multitude of people, especially children, who can benefit from used and old books.

Books For Africa: a simple name for an organization with a simple mission. We collect, sort, ship and distribute books to students of all ages in Africa. Our goal: to end the book famine in Africa. Books For Africa remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 28 million books to 49 countries since 1988. In 2012, we shipped 2.2 million books valued at $28.3 million to 22 African countries, with an additional 616 computers and 15 brand-new law libraries.

Quarterback Dan Marino, TV analyst James Brown, and Whoopi Goldberg are all going to be here, speaking, as well as a convention center full of booths for all things that might relate to an oldster like me.

Stay tuned, I’ll share it all with you here!
