Mexico City: This Week’s Destination
I’m at the terminal early, and can’t remember ever doing that. I just decided that even though a 6 am flight is brutal, I might as well make it easier on myself to throw in a 30 minute cushion. I’m flying today to Dallas then down to Mexico City for six days.
Mexico is a place I always feel comfortable–the people are so welcoming and I think there is no other place where Americans are treated better. This will be my first trip to Mexico City, one of the largest cities in the world. I know from much reading that it’s a city of neighborhoods–distinct areas such as the Poblano area where I am staying. There is an anthropological museum here that I’ve been told is one of the best in the world, so I’ll definitely be checking that out.
I’ll be traveling for the first three days with four other journalists—it’s always fun to meet my colleagues and hear their travel war stories. It’s amazing who you end up sitting next to. Conversations between writers are usually fast paced and rarely dull…it’s that they are in the business of asking questions and are curious that makes them such good company.
I look forward to sharing all of the people I meet and the places I see this week. I hope you’ll come back tomorrow when I begin my Mexico City coverage.
