It’s Amazing What Can Pop Up When You Meet
Another chilly wet day in May. Ugh, how cruel our climate is, even in mid-May we huddle in our houses and wonder where the sun is. I was up before the sun hanging with Sofie downstairs feeding her Cheerios and bananas.
I met with some fellow business owners in Deerfield yesterday and was pleased with how much momentum we got, after the agenda was somewhat low key. By the end we were talking about a new cable TV show about Deerfield businesses, creating a gift bag with souvenirs from all of our businesses for a group of visiting journalists coming in June, to coming up with new ways to distribute our rack cards that are now in every major motel up and down Rte 91. It was inspiring that just by deciding to gather for a meeting we came up with so many ideas….that shows that just showing up is indeed still half the way to the win.
We’ve got some new businesses in Deerfield. New England Auctions opened up a big warehouse where they sort and organize valuable old books and ephemera for their twice-monthly auctions. In August, a new tavern will be opening up where the Elm St. Tavern once was located. Our small flower shop in town has gone out of business so something new might open in their space over by the highway.
And for now anyway, I am happy to say that the plan to sell the cafe is on hold….I am more eager to find out how to make it profitable than sell it to someone else. I think there’s a way, and I’m not ready to give it up now that my sealed and signed deal fell through.
