New Century Theatre: Paying Actors Really Makes a Difference!

One of the reasons that Northampton has been voted one of America’s Best Art Towns is because of our professional theater company, New Century Theatre, which produces a roster of plays each summer. I’m pleased to be sharing news of their first production of the season starting on June 19, Neil Simon’s “Laughter on the 23rd Floor.”

Every time I go to a New Century show I am impressed not only with the acting, but with the sets, be they detailed and perfect replicas of a diner in their production of Superior Donuts in 2011 or the more stark set and the poignancy of Barbara Ehrenreich’s Nickel and Dimed that same year.

It’s really true that having paid actors up on stage raises the bar quite a bit, and everything about these shows is done well and professionally.  Sam Rush leads a group of dedicated pros who really know theater and make the experience meaningful for the audience.

This season has a fun roster of shows, and you can get tickets at a discount for all four shows at this link. Here is the line-up, all shows are performed at Smith College’s Mendenhall Center for the Performing Arts, 122 Green St. Northampton. Parking is easy and free!
