This Jersey Subs Guy Has Some Pearls of Wisdom
Peter Cancro started a sub franchise in Jersey when he was only 17. The former boy wonder was profiled today by Eileen Zimmerman in the NY Times. I love his practical, no nonsense way of doing business. For starters, these tips…
“I learned how critical the right location is for a retail store, and that it’s important to find out the revenues of the other businesses in the area. I’ve also learned how important training is. A lot of franchise companies may have cut training in this economy, but we’ve doubled it.”
The chain, Jersey Mike’s Subs, has more than 400 locations around NJ and NY. He also described a certain thing that’s hard to get from college but that is crucial for any hire:
“They have to pull the staff along with their energy, not push them. It’s difficult to describe what I’m looking for . I’ve seen what works and what doesn’t; it’s a gut feeling I have.”
It’s not difficult at all, I know just what you mean, Peter.
