Meet Sunnydayz Cannabis Owner Ken Bouquillon
Meet Ken Bouquillon, the confident cannabis expert who is opening the Sunnydayz Cannabis dispensary in South Deerfield, across from Tree House Brewing.
It’s not set to open until around March 2026, but according to its very confident owner, people will pay big bucks for the right kind of marijuana…and no one else in this area knows how to grow the good pot, which he will sell for more than double today’s low price.
The chart below shows the steep decline in pot prices across the state, but despite this, Ken maintains that $50 for an eighth of his high-quality soil-grown weed is worth it, even if that’s a price that hasn’t been seen in any Massachusetts dispensary for years.
“I’ve been growing weed for forty years,” Ken told me, as we watched workers with a Bobcat push dirt around a series of catch basins designed for the water coming off the parking lot. “There are so many things we had to do here, and I did this myself; I’m the contractor.” Building the two buildings in a wooded location gave him some advantages; the siding and beams came from logs right here in these woods, he said.
Ken has built a marijuana growing room that will produce a modest 1200 pounds of his special brand of weed right here. “We are the only company in the state that is growing AND selling in the same location, he said. “People will come to Tree House, across the street, and pay $11 for a beer. They will buy every bud we grow, and they’ll be happy to pay $100 for a quarter ounce, because it’s so much better than the other pot for sale here.”
I think that’s a stretch, but as a backup, Ken said he would also be selling some cheaper strains, closer to the market price in the area. But people will pay because what you find in the dispensaries around here is all crap.” Ken uses more profanity, but you get the idea.
Ken remains very sure about his products and how different this dispensary will be from the others, many of which have struggled to make much profits. Here are some of his comments on the Sunnydayz Instagram page.
“Good luck finding another dispensary with this type of craftsmanship, anywhere. We measure to the sixteenth, this is the way. Mechanics and Electrical are next, followed by interior detailing. Our unique BudBar will serve only high-quality terpene-rich flower from SDC grow rooms and other selected craft growers in MA. Our company takes pride in doing every task in life to the very best of our ability. OleSkool at its finest!
I appreciate Ken’s interest in providing the community with the finest in bud, but I question whether he’s the only one who knows how to grow. He said he has been selling weed to NYC buyers for decades, and had a grow operation in Washington state. He said he is also helping build a grow facility in Estonia right now.
I”m looking forward to seeing this place open and I guess we’ll have to see if this boasting comes out to be true, or if like so many others it’s a race to the bottom in retail pricing.

I was interested in the landscape, and this quote is from an AI search about the topic, stating what lies in front of Ken as he prepares to open.
Here’s the landscape that Sunnydayz is entering:
- High risk, low margin
- Prices are low, competition is fierce, and many operators are struggling to stay afloat.
- Regulatory roulette: The threat of legalization rollback could upend the entire business model.
- Strategic survival: Success may hinge on niche branding (e.g., craft cannabis), tight cost control, and community engagement—especially if they qualify for social equity programs.
But there are exceptions, and these dispensaries are succeeding in the tough climate in Western Massachusetts.
