Pageant of the Masters…We’re Going!
The Pageant of the Masters is the Festival of Arts’ crowning jewel and arguably one of the most unique productions in the entire world.
When I visited Laguna Beach with Mary a few years ago, I heard about this big event, called the Pageant of the Masters. It’s such a big thing that it’s held in a special arena that’s only used between July 7 and August 31. Here is how it’s described.
On each evening of the Festival of Arts summer schedule, ticket holders are amazed and enchanted by ninety minutes of tableaux vivants (living pictures), incredibly faithful recreations of classical and contemporary works of art, with real people posing to look exactly like their counterparts in the original pieces.
An outdoor amphitheater, professional orchestra, original score, live narration, intricate sets, sophisticated lighting, expert staff and hundreds of dedicated volunteers have won recognition for the Pageant of the Masters as the best presentation of its kind.
Thousands of local people from this art-loving community volunteer, and they put in months and months of work to produce strikingly accurate depictions of old master’s paintings using real people and animals.
It’s fast-paced and it’s a 90-minute show featuring dozens of different sets.
Now I’m planning on seeing the Pageant in person, on August 11, in Laguna Beach’s fabulous outdoor arena, with its stunning series of depictions of art by human models, when I’ll be in the area on a vacation with my grandchildren.
I’m not even going to tell Sofie and Nate about it, we’ll just drive down to Laguna on Sunday night the 11th and I’ll surprise them.
I can’t wait and I know they will be mind-blown by this spectacle.
