February 2024: Retired Life, Time at Home

My new chair
My new bedroom chair and carpet.

I’m settling into a life that I never really imagined. That’s because I was convinced I would keep working, I would keep wanting to do the same thing for the rest of my life. My retired life is shaping up, and I like it.

It’s a strange realization when you see that you have this chunk of time, this remaining time, and so it’s harder to just do the same old thing. Now I’m looking for more fun things, and more people and friends to enjoy it with.

I did notice a change that is a typical element of aging. I enjoy going to bed earlier and getting up at 5:45 or so. That way after I’ve spent my time doing my Connections NYT puzzle and reading my news, it’s still really early. Today after a long amount of puttering and just doing nothing I looked at the clock and saw it was 7:30.  So another day has begun.

I found my time at the co-work enjoyable yesterday, when I got there at 7:45 and left at 12 noon. Just don’t want too much time, work is there but it’s just part of the stuff I want to do. I am now eyeing my red dining room walls with the dreadful paneling. This will be my next big project starting next week.

But this weekend I”m happy to have houseguests. My sister Brown and her husband John George are coming up and we’re having guests over for Sunday dinner.  It will be fun to show them around my Valley.
