Soup for Syria Brings Neighbors Together in South Deerfield
Candace Bradbury-Carlin is South Deerfield’s best neighborhood organizer! She is always coming up with new ways to get people in our not-that-friendly little town together for events, things like suppers, art shows and events.
She’s got another event coming up, and I’m happy to be joining some of our other townsfolk at Soup for Syria, which will bring homemade soup together with raising money for refugees in Syria.
I like community. I tried hard to create it when I opened the GoNOMAD Cafe. In fact there was not really any good business reason to open a cafe in a town this small, it was more for my own interest in having such a place right here where I live. Since 2011, there hasn’t been anywhere to gather like that. But these events that Candace and other folks come up with, such as Julie Cavacco’s dinners at the Congregational Church, are filling the void, and for that I applaud them.
I hope you can join me on Sunday night at the Polish Club, Sunday April 3 from 5-7 pm, for home made soup and some old fashioned community. It’s more than needed in our cold little village. Share the word, let’s get a good crowd and make community happen, even here!
