At Fiskars Village, a community of artists a hour outside of Helsinki, hundreds of designers and craftspeople create art and share visions in a quiet rural setting. This was once an iron ore center but after the factory moved, artists were brought in to fill the empty buildings. It’s still owned by the Fiskar company, a global manufacturer of garden tools, scissors and other products, and artists get fellowships to live in subsidized houses on the grounds and share exhibitions and ideas with each other and the visiting public.
