Tomorrow We Drive to Lot-en-Garonne and Begin our Aquitaine Adventures

I am in Terminal E at Logan, awaiting a night flight that will bring me to Bordeaux on Monday morning. There are few things I can compare to the giddiness and sense of anticipation that I still feel, after hundreds of trips, about a departure. That’s why I’m a traveler, and proud to still have that childlike excitement over stepping into a new place.

We will drive to Lot-et-Garonne department, to a place called Hameau des Coquelicots. It’s a relaxation center where they have lots of relaxing things like gardens, yoga, massage and small guest houses. We will stay in Chateau Lassaille where the owners offer cooking lessons and hot air balloon rides. Not sure if any ballooning is on the agenda…but you never know.

Later in the week we will take a boat trip on the Baise river and visit another small hotel there they have a hamman, spas and a heated pool. The other place on the agenda is a hunting cabin in the woods called a palombiere. They are used to catch pigeons, I am told.

Another day will put us in Citroen CV, the classic French car with the rolldown top and we shall motor out into the countryside for a picnic. A ‘vinotherapy’ session is also scheduled, involving the therapeutic use of wine on the body. Lots of wine tasting will be included, since we are in Bordeaux.
