On Sunday a Montague man named Mik’s dream comes true.  I wrote about his dream back in December; he wanted to race human-powered cars down a steep hill in Turners Falls. He recalled doing this as a child, scooting down a hill in Saltaire, NY in a soapbox racer.

I’ve recruited a few friends to join me at Unity Park in Turners Falls, where we’ll watch the races as the cars zip down a haybale-lined track.  Everyone I’ve told about this has wanted to see it for themselves. I look forward to joining them and the crowds as we watch the cars zip down the steep hill.

Today in the Recorder there were photos of some of the entrants. One was spiffed up to look like a hot rod, with fenders and hubcaps. Another spindly looking one had four bike wheels and slender tubelike frame.  Then one that looks like it weighs a ton, red steel in a structure that looks like a vee. We’ll see which one wins!
